Nowadays, with a new appreciation of our pristine environment by all
who visit and reside in this wonderful province, BC's rivers, lakes
and streams have taken on a renewed significance by those seeking
the wonderful experiences that these precious waterways have to offer.
Recreation on the island's rivers is great, but it is the standard
of the fishing that gets thousands of annual visitors whimpering and
trembling at the mere thought of Vancouver Island and British Columbia.
The choices are many, so allow enough time to satisfy the fishing
passion and still enjoy the many friendly communities and other outdoor
activities available. The
Cowichan River is the undisputed champion of the island, with three
of the other most productive river systems being the Campbell/Quinsam
Rivers on the east coast and the Gold River and Stamp/Somass Rivers
on the west coast.
